At Heritage Hills Elementary in Ohio, every month one student in each class was chosen for the Golden Apple award. On one day during that month, the Golden Apple students had a special lunch together, separate from the rest of the students. The principal may have also been there.

The Golden Apple kids got to have Coke with their lunches, which was not normally an option. Because I was diabetic, I was offered a Diet Coke, but I said I would take milk instead. One of the other kids asked if my brother Bill was also diabetic, because he had chosen milk when he had been a Golden Apple.
