Sometime during my first year at college - probably around November - I got into the habit of hanging out in the lobby of the Union building after finishing with classes for the day. My friend Bob worked the front desk.

One day while I was there, a girl from my floor in the dorms was also hanging out there, talking to Bob. He had to attend to some actual work-related business, so when he was busy, she asked me how I was doing. I opened my mouth to respond, Bob came back (his business hadn't taken very long at all), and Lisa turned her back on me before I'd even gotten out the first word of my response. Before then, I had liked Lisa. But it was pretty hard to keep liking her after being completely disregarded like that.
