I was on several rec-league soccer teams when I was a kid, but I wasn't always that into the game. One game day in Ohio, it was stormy and I didn't want to play soccer. And I guess I told my coach I didn't want to, because he didn't put me in. Mom made me apologize to him when she learned what happened. But from what he said in response to my apology, he had apparently thought my not wanting to play was related to my diabetes. The thought had not entered my mind that there could be a link between the two.
And thinking about this, I seem to remember refusing to play at least once in New Jersey, too, and getting lectured about it. Must not have sunk in.
