On what was probably my sixth birthday, I brought cupcakes to school to share with the class. One cupcake was not frosted. So I looked around the class and chose one of the kids to give the unfrosted cupcake to. He (she?) was not happy, which surprised me for some reason. But one of the girls in the class offered to trade with him, because she liked cupcakes without frosting.

I think it was several years before it occurred to me that the cupcake without frosting was probably meant for me.
